Longtime Variety columnist Army Archerd died of complications related to mesothelioma Tuesday. Archered covered the enetertainment industry for more than 50 years and was known for his caring, genuine reporting. Archerd was known for his style of writing, using three dots to end sentences to create a talkative tone. While he was celebrated for his entertainment columns, he took on some important issues, such as his 1985 column detailing Rock Hudson's battle with AIDS. Archerd was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer, many years ago. While Archerd may not have contracted mesothelioma from asbestos, many people do suffer this form of lung cancer from asbestos exposure.
